Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette - First Impressions Review and Swatches

Guys. GUYS. My Naked Heat Palette FINALLY arrived! I’ve been waiting so long for this! I was so excited that I was able to get my order in on the pre-release date, June 12th, and I literally just got it in the mail today. JUNE 29th!! That’s 17 days later!

It’s already available online through multiple retailers (I’ll link it at the end) and it’ll be available in-stores on July 9th at Ulta, and on July 10th at Sephora. With all of that anxious waiting, I AM SO EXCITED to finally be able to play around with this palette! Just by looking at it, it’s definitely a very warm, red-toned palette, hence the name Heat! And I’m totally into it.

The description on the box reads:

Naked heats up. Get lit with 12 ALL-NEW, can’t-live-without, amber-hued neutrals—including warm browns, burnt oranges and rich siennas. From a super-smooth red-brown matte and a glimmering copper to a deep, shifty bronze, this palette has everything you need to create sultry daytime looks, intensely smoky nighttime looks and everything in between.

Doesn’t that sound amazing?! It sure does to me.

This palette, like the other Naked palettes, includes 12 shades. At $54.00, that’s $4.50 a shade, which isn’t too bad because each pan is 1.3g/0.05 oz, which is more than some other popular palettes. For example, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette is 0.02 oz per shadow. I didn’t even realize it was that little! (I just looked it up.)

Well, that’s enough talking, let’s look at the palette!

It comes in a beautifully designed cardboard box, with the description and shade names on the back.

The palette is sitting in another box that slides out of the first box.

The back of the inner box is printed with an image of burning roses. Oh they so artsy.

Beautiful packaging. Definitely feels high-quality.

The actual palette is cased in a plastic casing—but not like drugstore kind of plastic, this one feels really heavy and sturdy. The name is on a clear layer that sits on a mirror-ish background with a ribbed design.

I don’t know the best way to describe that LOL, but it looks really cool! It’s definitely a step up from the previous Naked palettes.

OUNCE (ivory shimmer) CHASER (light nude matte) SAUCED (soft terra-cotta matte) LOW BLOW (brown matte) LUMBRE (copper shimmer w/gold pearl shift) HE DEVIL (burnt red matte) DIRTY TALK (metallic burnt red) SCORCHED (metallic deep red w/gold micro-shimmer) CAYENNE (deep terra-cotta matte) EN FUEGO (burgundy matte) ASHES (deep reddish-brown matte) EMBER (deep metallic copper-burgundy)

Swatches:

I took photos in two different types of light—one in front of a window with natural sunlight and one with my body blocking the sunlight coming from the window. And photos are not edited at all, to show true color.

Thoughts:

Okay, my first thought when I swatched the colors was, “IN LOVE.” I know there was controversy about the palette not swatching well, looking different than in the promo photos, and that some of the shades were too similar to each other.

Well, I personally do not have any of those thoughts after swatching it. With the swatching, it does depend how you swatch it—I do three swipes against the shadow, like down-up-down, then give it a pretty firm swipe across my arm.

Of course it’ll look worse if you, for example, only do one swipe against the shadow then a light swipe against your arm.

Formula:

They are super creamy and I was shocked when I felt them. I only have the Naked 2 palette, and this one is definitely a step up from the formula in that one.

As you can see from the swatches, the shimmer/metallic shades are smoother than the matte shades. All of the shimmer/metallic shades swatched super evenly, but the matte shades were a bit more patchy.

The matte shades are still really soft and creamy, they just didn’t apply as evenly—which is absolutely fine because those shades are probably going to be blended out anyway, whereas the shimmer/metallic shades will likely be packed onto the lid.

Speaking of blending, the blendability of the shadows is top-notch. Easy-peasy. Like I said earlier, they are soft and creamy, which means easy blending.

I really am SO excited to try this palette out. I have never been more in love with a palette, other than the Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette.

I already have a bunch of different looks in mind that I want to do. I’ll be doing an eye look using only this palette soon, which of course, I will share with all of you. Be on the lookout for that. 🙂

Thank you all so much for reading! Until next time. <3

Step 1 and step 2 of the @malieorganics hand-washi Step 1 and step 2 of the @malieorganics hand-washing routine that makes every hand-washing experience feel like you’re in a spa. Since we’re all washing our hands more than we usually do, it’s super important to use a moisturizing hand soap along with a moisturizing cream. Bonus points for the amazing scent!
