Hi, guys! Earlier this week, I spent like a good hour in Walgreens picking out new makeup to try. I’m fairly new to the drugstore makeup game, but I heard that a ton of products are just as good, or even better than their high-end counterparts so I wanted to try some out! And saving some dollah bills while I’m at it is a bonus! Side note: the Walgreens app is SO AMAZING. Coupons galore that can be stacked on top of store sales! I was seriously so amazed with the amount of money I saved. I ended up getting almost a 40% discount. Amazing. Will be posting the prices I got them for at Walgreens (in-store on Maui, which is usually more expensive than online) and the regular price in parentheses, even though different places may sell them at different prices.
Without further ado, let’s get into the haul! Really excited to test this stuff out. 🙂
L’oreal Paris – Infallible Pro-Matte 24HR Foundation in Golden Beige (104) – $12.49 ($14.49) L’oreal Paris – Infallible Blend Artist Foundation Blender – $5.99 ($7.99)
This foundation is supposed to be a dupe for the NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation, which I use every day, so I haaaad to try it. The $13.49 price tag sure beats the $48 price tag on the NARS foundation. As I’m writing this, I currently have the foundation on. The color is a bit dark for me, but that’s my own fault for choosing the wrong color. First impression: It takes more layers to build up to the coverage of the NARS foundation (it took me 3 layers!!! but I do like really full coverage). It’s labeled as a medium coverage foundation and I definitely agree. The NARS foundation is full coverage, so that explains the difference. The finish is nice though, it’s very similar looking to the NARS foundation – demi matte, so not super matte where it looks like I have absolutely no moisture in my face. It’s not as lightweight, but it almost is!
Okay, now the sponge. This sponge is supposed to be the closest thing to a Beauty Blender that you can get at a drugstore. Now, I’m not a sponge girl. I’ve never used a Beauty Blender to apply and blend out my makeup so I have nothing to compare it to and I don’t know if I’m using it correctly. I do know that you’re supposed to wet it first, squeeze out the excess water, and use it damp, which I did. I used it for the first time today, and honestly, I went straight back to using my flat kabuki brush to apply my second and third layer of foundation. There might be a learning curve with using a blending sponge, so I’ll keep trying it out.
Wet n Wild – ColorIcon Blush in Pearlescent Pink – $2.99 Wet n Wild – MegaGlow Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals – $4.99
I decided to pick both of these up because Manny Mua put them in his top 10 drugstore products video and for that price, why not?! These weren’t on sale but they’re already sooo affordable. I used both products over the last two days and I honestly am so in love with both products.
The color of the blush is such a beautiful pinky peach with a bit of shimmer. I usually use NARS blush in Orgasm and this one is similar, but just a tad more subdued. The highlighter is a pretty subtle shimmer, definitely not as blinding as I’m used to, but it’s perfect for everyday use because of that very reason. And it seems like it would be buildable to a blinding level. The color is golden with a tiny cast of pink, which is absolutely beautifullll. Both products are super smooth, not chunky, chalky, or gritty at all.
Maybelline New York – The Colossal Big Shot Mascara – $6.36 ($8.49)
With the enormous amount of different mascaras available at Walgreens, it was so hard to decide which one to buy, but I heard from a few people that this one is really good. The claims are: “Fully loaded volume in one coat” and “8 out of 10 saw bigger bolder volume.” Volume is the number one thing I look for in a mascara, so this sounds perfect for me. I like how the applicator brush has actual brush bristles and isn’t like a small plastic comb-like applicator. I also like how the brush tapers off towards the end, making it easy to get those shorter eyelashes on the lower lash line.
L’oreal Paris – Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush – $4.49 ($8.99)
When I swatched this shadow, I fell in loooove. It’s like a cross between a cream shadow and a powder shadow, so it’s super smooth. The shadow is SO pigmented, like SO DAMN pigmented, I can just imagine how beautiful it’ll look on the lid. It’s also really soft – the indention in the middle of the shadow, that can be seen in the photo, is because I pushed too hard when swatching it. Don’t go digging your brush into it!
Wet n Wild: Mega Last Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick in Coral Corruption and Nudist Peach – $3.49 ($4.99) L’oreal Paris – Glossy Balm in Ginger Candy – $3.99 ($7.99)
I picked up all three of these because the price was just too good to pass it up. I’m still experimenting with lipsticks, so I don’t really know what I like yet or which products are “good.” But, at these prices, I figured it was a good opportunity to test them out.
I have two Nyx Lingerie liquid lipsticks, which I love, so I’m hoping the Wet n Wild liquid lipsticks will be similar in formula. When swatching it, it applied pretty smoothly, a little streaky in some areas at first, so I added another layer. It dried to a very matte finish and it dried completely – no transfer when touching it with my finger after it dried and it didn’t leave a tacky feeling. Looking forward to seeing how it wears on the lips.
The L’oreal glossy balm is exactly that – a tinted lip balm with a glossy finish, but without that sticky, wet feeling that many lip glosses leave. Tried it out once and I love it so far. It’s perfect for those days when you just want a little color and a little shine on your lips. I can see myself using this very often.
Kiss – Last Couture Faux Mink Lashes in Boudoir – $2.99 ($5.99)
Kiss – Looks So Natural Lashes in Poise – $3.49 ($6.99)
Ardell – Studio Effects Wispies Lashes – $2.89 ($5.79)
Ardell – Double Up Lashes 207 – $2.79 ($5.49)
Can a girl really have too many pairs of falsies?! Never. And for these prices? Stock em uppp. I’m really looking forward to trying out the faux mink pair because daaaamn real mink lashes are SO expensive. I wore a Looks So Natural pair today and I loved it. It really does look natural because of the tapered ends and to me it looked as it I had eyelash extensions done. Perfect for everyday use. Haven’t tried the other styles out yet but they look beautiful in the package!
And that’s it, guys! I really had so much fun exploring the makeup section in Walgreens and I probably will find myself there again soon. Would love to hear about the drugstore products that you love! <3
