Best Makeup of May 2019
Another month has passed which means it’s time for another Monthly Favorites post!
I went a little crazy during the recent Sephora Spring Sale and bought a bunch of new makeup, so much of this list are products from the sale. I actually didn’t have any flops from my Sephora sale purchases!
I’ve been doing a lot of drugstore makeup posts in the last few months because you can get amazing quality makeup at the drugstore for a low cost.
BUT, since most of my new makeup in May came from the Sephora sale, today’s list is a little boujee-er than my recent Monthly Favorites lists.
Sometimes boujee Liana has to come out! And boujee Liana definitely came out in May since all of my favorite products are luxury makeup items (or items found at Sephora).
I recently did a post on the Best Luxury Makeup Worth Your Money and I think I’ll probably have to add all of the following products to that list!
If you’ve missed my recent Monthly Favorites posts, be sure to check them out before you leave!
So, without further ado, let’s get started!

Best Makeup – May 2019 Favorites

Laura Mercier – Flawless Lumiere Radiance-Perfecting Foundation

I was so excited when this foundation was released that I had such a hard time waiting until the sale to buy it!
The previously released Laura Mercier foundation – the Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation – was very well received in the beauty community and is loved by many!
I am also a fan of that foundation, but as someone with dry skin, it was a little too matte for me. SO, I was super excited that a luminous version was released!
And the Flawless Lumiere Radiance-Perfection Foundation lived up to all of my expectations.
It has the most beautiful soft luminous finish that works wonderfully with dry skin. It isn’t super luminous, just a tad bit more luminous than a natural finish foundation.
It is a medium-coverage foundation, which is pretty standard for luminous foundations, but I do wish it provided a tad bit more coverage.
However, it is very easy to layer this foundation and build up coverage in certain areas.
Laura Mercier claims that this foundation provides 15 hours of wear and although I haven’t worn it for that long of a time period, I agree that it’s long-wearing!
I’ve worn it for about 12 hours, through a workout, and it still looked pretty damn good! It wore off in some areas, but that is honestly to be expected after 12 hours of wear.

Dior – Dior Forever Skin Glow 24h Wear Radiant Perfection Skin-Caring Foundation

At about the same time that Laura Mercier released the above foundation, Dior released two new Dior Forever foundations – one with a matte finish and one with a radiant finish (this one).
Even though I knew I was going to purchase the Laura Mercier foundation, I couldn’t resist purchasing this one, too!
It’s honesty pretty similar to the Laura Mercier foundation in finish, coverage, and the way they blend out, but the Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation includes an SPF of 35.
Some people like foundations that include SPF and some people don’t. I’d say it just comes down to your lifestyle.
If you spend a lot of time outside, it’s important to include SPF for your skin’s health. (I’d recommend applying SPF prior to makeup, though, instead of using a foundation that includes it.)
SPF does result in flashback if you take flash photos at night, so be careful with that!
The Dior Forever Skin Glow is a tad bit more luminous than the Laura Mercier Lumiere as it’s almost a dewy finish.
If you use loose powder on top of this foundation, the end result looks super natural and skin-like. Loose powder tends to make the skin appear dry, but not with this foundation!

Marc Jacobs – O! Mega Glaze All-Over Foil Luminizer – Runway Collection

I’m kind of a Marc Jacobs Beauty fangirl, so I didn’t even think twice about purchasing this highlighter when I saw it at Sephora.
I absolutely love the earlier released shade of this highlighter, Gilty (seen in 2018 Luxury Favorites), for its buttery texture and foiled finish, but the shade is a tad bit too dark for me. It would be perfect for medium to dark skin tones.
SO, my excitement was through the roof when I saw this shade! And I was definitely not disappointed. I love this highlighter so much! It’s totally one of my top 5 highlighters of all time.
It’s a stunning white champagne shade with a bit of warmth that is perfect for fair to light skin tones. My foundation shade is usually described as light neutral, for reference.
I usually don’t go for super icy highlighters because that can leave a streak that looks gray if looking at my face straight-on, but the bit of warmth in this highlighter is the perfect amount to keep that from happening.
And the formula of this shade is just as smooth and buttery as the previous shade. Absolutely to die for! It gives you such a wet, foiled look.

Hourglass – Ambient Lighting Bronzer

In Luminous Bronze Light
The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer isn’t new to me as I have the Lighting Edit Volume 4 (seen in Makeup Worth Your Money), but I loved it so much that I NEEDED to buy a full-sized version.
Also, the pan is too small in the palette! I use a fairly big bronzer brush and I could never get the brush only on the bronzer. The bronzer is positioned next to the blush so I would always get blush on the brush as well!
So, a full-sized version was a must. I got it in a different shade so it’s not like I bought it just for the convenience of the packaging LOL.
I bought the shade Luminous Bronze Light, which is described as a medium bronze shade fused with Luminous Light for a softer, candlelit warmth.
And it is definitely warm on me! It’s probably the warmest I can go with a bronzer before I start looking orange.
But, I love it! I was always hesitant of using warm bronzers out of the fear of looking too tan that it looks fake, but this shade is perfect.
It’s gorgeous for a radiant sun-kissed look, which is perfect for summer! On the first day I tried it out, my mom told me I looked like I got some sun!
The special thing about all the Hourglass Ambient Powders is that the finish makes you look like you’re glowing from within.
It’s not just another powder with some shimmer in it to give you a glow.
There’s something very special and different about the Ambient Powders that makes your skin just look so good.

Fresh Beauty – Sugar Hydrating Lip Balm

c/o Fresh Beauty via Octoly
In Peach and Lemon
If you’ve read any of my other favorites posts, you know that I’m totally a lip balm girl!
For daily wear, I much prefer a great lip balm to any lipstick and this one is my new go-to!
Both scents smell amazing without being too overwhelming and the moisture lasts on your lips for sooo long.
If you suffer from dry lips, this will be your new best friend. It’s even moisturizing enough to use as a lip sleeping mask!
The only thing I would change about it is the packaging. It comes in a tin so you have to use your finger to apply it.
Not the most practical if you’re out and about, and definitely not the most sanitary.
For that reason, I like to put this balm on at home, before I leave the house, and I’ll use a different lip balm throughout the day.

Sephora Collection – 12hr Colorful Contour Eyeliner

In Surfer Babe
I’ve been on a colored liner kick recently and this one is my newest obsession!
The shade is described as a peacock blue and I couldn’t describe it any better! I love the way this shade makes my eyes pop even if the rest of my eye makeup isn’t that exciting.

I’m always hesitant on purchasing store-branded products, but I’m so glad I picked up this pencil.
It glides on so smoothly, even on the waterline, has great color payoff, and it lasts all day without smudging!
I’ve raved a lot about the Marc Jacobs Highliner gel pencils in previous posts, but this pencil comes very close!
I haven’t tried all of the shades to make a super educated comparison, but just based on this shade (and a few others that I own), the Sephora Collection pencils are a great affordable alternative to the Marc Jacobs Highliner gel pencils.
(This shade is currently on sale along with a handful of other shades!)

Sephora Collection – Solid Clean: Solid Brush Cleaner

I’ve been suffering an allergic reaction to something for months that made my eyelids and the areas around my eyes super inflamed, itchy, then dry and flaky.
For the longest time, I could not figure out what was causing it because every time I would take something out of my routine that I suspected might be causing it, the reaction would persist.
One day I had the realization that it might be the brush cleaner I was using. I was just using regular bath bar soap to clean my brushes – just any bar soap that we had around the house.
So, I decided to try cleaning my brushes with baby shampoo (for brushes I only use for powders) and this solid brush cleaner (for brushes I use with cream/liquid products).
And guess what?! My allergic reaction hasn’t come back since. (Knock on wood!) Who would’ve thought?!
I was so focused on what makeup or skincare products might be the culprit that I didn’t even think about my brush cleaner!
So now, this solid brush cleaner is the only one I will use on my cream/liquid product brushes.
It does such a great job at cleaning them (better than bar soap, btw) and I love the scent! It smells so clean!
The bonus is that you also get a mini brush cleaning pad that fits right inside the container it comes in, which makes it perfect for traveling!
